The Mission Hills boys varsity soccer team is looking forward to a competitive and successful season. The objective for this group is to win the league, but it doesn’t end there; they not only want to make their school proud but their entire community as well.

The team has had a strong pre-season, with a record of five wins, two ties, and two losses. The team’s offense has been a key factor in their success, with several players scoring multiple goals in their games. The three leading goal scorers are junior Alonzo Torres, four goals, senior Subhan Nazimi, four goals, and leading goal scorer junior Sebastion Gomez, with five goals.

“In my opinion, our offense has been really good and has definitely improved from last year. This year, I expect nothing less than a ring,” said junior Sebastian Gomez, Right Winger.

Defensively, the team was looking shaky at first, but after watching film, the team was able to coordinate their press and fix their mistakes. The team in general has been focusing on improving their teamwork and communication, and it has certainly paid off on the field.

“Our team roars with passion. That passion makes us compete with 110% effort every time we step on the field. Not only are we teammates, but we are a family. We’re getting that ring and all of us know it,” said junior Sterling Brown, Goalkeeper.

Overall, the team is considered a favorite to win their league this season. With a talented group of players and a dedicated coaching staff led by Benjamin Magana, the Mission Hills boys varsity soccer team is confident that they can compete with the top teams in their division.

“For the first time in my four seasons as a coach not only did the team finish with a positive preseason record, but we are favored to win our league. Now that’s not what impresses me the most from this team. It is their commitment and trust to one another that is commendable. Not surprisingly, I trust my guys to get the job done and win Mission Hills, a ring, a state champ ring,” said Benjamin Magana, Head Coach.

The team’s first official season game will be a home game this Wednesday, Jan. 11, against Vista at 5:30 pm. The Mission Hills boys varsity soccer team is excited for the challenge and is confident they will come out on top. They are encouraging all students and community members to come out and support them at the game.
