Mission Hills High School competes against Torrey Pines High School in a home game and the team is looking to start the season off on the right track, by winning versus a big conference opponent. This matchup between Mission Hills and Torrey Pines is usually a very intense game, as the last time these teams matched up, Torrey Pines came up with a close win 69 to 66. The Mission Hills team––that is underclassmen-heavy—looks to get revenge after a tough loss last season.

“We were locked in all week and the coaches got us prepared and ready for the game. We wanted this one, especially because we lost to them last year by three, ” said junior Jack Jillson, guard.

Even while being a young team, Mission Hills looks to continue to play hard and get leadership from their senior core. The team took a tough loss when senior guard Caleb Hofmeister injured his right arm during practice week. This was a setback for the team, but they know now they needed to play for their fallen teammate. This game was now going to be a test, not only of the team’s skill set but of their mental toughness. Overcoming this would not be easy, but the team was preparing throughout the whole week to go in and win this game.

“It was our best team-oriented game of the season. Being able to come together and beat a top team in San Diego was a true representation of our toughness,” said senior Kyle Neff, forward.

This win for the Grizzlies boy’s basketball team gives them the level of confidence they needed, especially going into a week where they play two conference opponents- La Costa Canyon and San Marcos. These two games will take so much teamwork and leadership as both of these teams always put up a good game against the Grizzlies. The La Costa Game is a home game today Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7:00 p.m.

The love and support for our Grizzly basketball family is very much appreciated, and can extremely help boost this team to more victories in the future. Let’s go Grizzlies, we got your back!
