Little Italy inspires joy as the annual tree lighting announces the start of the holiday season.

Story by Alyah Ochoa, Staff Writer

This year at San Diego’s Little Italy, the community hosted their annual Christmas tree lighting and invited visitors to participate in holiday activities and explore quaint restaurants. Little Italy boasts many Italian restaurants, cafes, and other shops including the Mona Lisa and Caffe Italia that visitors could savor. As for younger ages, Little Italy provided  pictures with Santa Claus for $5, carriage rides till 6:45 p.m, art activities, and other holiday projects. Guests had the opportunity to listen to live music and entertainers including Christmas carolers. Seasonal vendors sold holiday treats and decorations. The new 25-foot tall Christmas was placed in the Piazza Basilone. The second tree that lit this memorable evening was a 25-foot permanent located in the heart of Piazza de Famiglia. The tree appeared in different colors due to thousands of LED light bulbs. The tree lighting countdown gathering began at 6:30 p.m. Guests experienced joy and holiday cheer this spectacular night. Let the anticipation for the 23rd Little Italy tree lighting begin.
