Taylor Swift made history at the Grammys on Feb. 4, 2024, by announcing her brand new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album. What can her fans, the Swifties, expect from this album?
Swift is known for dropping easter eggs in her upcoming works to give clues to her fans. Lindsay Miller, a big Swiftie, had a few things to say about the easter eggs for this new album.
“I noticed that she had made her profile picture in black and white and the theme of her Instagram had also become black and white. This led me to believe that she was gonna announce ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’,” freshman Miller said.
Swift has been releasing what she calls ‘Taylor’s Versions’ (TV) of her old albums in the past couple of years. A Taylor’s Version edition is when she re-records her old albums so that she officially owns them. Since she has been releasing these, fans such as Miller have been anticipating “Reputation TV” because it is one of her latest albums she needs to re-record.
“I feel like there is gonna be a variety of different genres due to the names of the songs on the record. I am mostly thinking that the album will be a mix of indie-folk (similar to Folklore) and synth-pop (similar to 1989),” freshman Suhani Kamal said.
Reyah Tokhi explains in an interview about Swift’s new album what she thinks it will be like. She was basing these ideas on the track list Swift released on Instagram.
“I think that the album will be about missing someone and have more of a sad mood. So, kinda similar to Folklore. One of the song titles was, ‘So Long, London,’ and her ex-boyfriend was from London, so I think one of her songs could also be about that too,” freshman Tokhi said.
Taylor Swift always has had some very intriguing albums with well-articulated themes. She is a great role model for many upcoming artists. Many agree that it is so exciting to see what this album will be like.
“I think everyone should be excited because it’s her new album. If you love her music and are a true fan, of course, you’ll be really excited about it. I think the best part is going to be her lyrics,” Kamal said.
