Girls track is starting another season this spring. Everyone on the track team hangs out after school for around two hours working with weights and doing reps on the track.
“Track is an independent sport which I like because then I can focus on myself,” freshman Simone Soricelli said.
Some people enjoy independent sports, but they’re not for everyone since the group dynamic is something a lot of people like to experience. Nonetheless, both independent and group sports provide a positive environment for the athlete. Different parts of track have partner work, like the relay race, where two or more people run together passing a baton to one another. Track practice was optional during winter so that the athletes were ready for spring and didn’t overwork themselves. Track has many pros and cons, just as any sport does. The majority of people on track do other sports during their off season.
“Another sport I would choose to do is soccer because it has kinda the same dynamics as track,” said Soricelli.
The whole team feels that they have a very friendly relationship with their peers, and they try to create a good team dynamic so that they can be there for each other and work together.
“I chose to do track last year as an 8th grader, and I wanted to try something new,” said freshman Anabelle Prada.
People do sports to sometimes better themselves, make connections, and more. Track is a mental and physical sport—it does a lot for the mind and body. Track, for some, is a way to clear one’s head and relax after a hard day.
“Meets are very fast paced but slow paced, depending on how many events you’re running,” senior Bella Cooper said.
Track is a hard sport, but everyone that’s on the team always does an amazing job representing Mission Hills, as the season has just begun.
