In a victorious display of skill, endurance, and unswerving dedication, Mission Hills High School’s cross country team has secured their fourth consecutive win at the annual fall league championships. By outpacing their competitors once again, the varsity boys and girls cross country team of MHHS not only showcased their mastery at the sport but set forth how they will always put in full effort to attain remarkable achievements by not backing down.
From the starting gun’s resounding blast to the final sprint to the finish line, the cross country runners show an unstoppable pursuit of success. The Grizzly runners exhibit their athletic expertise, strategic brilliance, and unceasing spirit as they mark their fourth win in the league championships. With days and days of demanding practices, the runners have ensured that they are indomitable on the track.
“We practiced every single day after school, running a few miles and doing some other exercises…it was definitely challenging but worth it in the end,” said senior Julia Ferreira.
Ferreira has been running since her freshman year, and from the start of her high school cross country journey, the school has won in the championships. Being a part of the team for four years now, Ferreira shares how teamwork was at the root of the victories.
“Our team is really close. We’re like a big family and we try our best to fit in team bondings like going to the beach every now and then to become even closer. Everyone runs for each other, along with themselves, which is what keeps us going, and I think that is a big contributing factor to why we’re such a successful team,” said Ferreira.
Mission Hills has undoubtedly shown their opponents that they are made of hard work and strong determination to win. With the varsity team consisting of freshmen as well, which is not very common in high school sports, they were overjoyed after winning, kicking off their high school cross country experience to a great start.
Dahlia Valencia, a freshman on the team, celebrates their victory. “I was really proud of the team and myself after I found out we had won. I think after all the effort we put in, we got a nice reward to mark the season to an end. And to our future opponents: watch out for us, the Grizzlies are on a roll!”
