On Friday, Oct. 13, the movie theaters were packed. Swifties from all over the country were lining up to experience the Eras Tour for themselves when they couldn’t watch it live. Afterward, it was raved about for weeks; fans praised Taylor Swift’s ingenious action of releasing it.
“I was really excited to see it ‘cause I love Taylor Swift. I thought it was really cool that they made it into a movie because that was one of the most legendary concerts of all time. I felt like I was there. It was awesome,” said freshman Harper Sherwood.
However, Sherwood (favorite album: Red or 1989, favorite song: “Cruel Summer”) believes she would have had a better time at the concert than in the theater.
“I think just being at the concert would be cool for anyone. Anybody could have fun at the actual concert but not everybody could have fun watching the movie,” said Sherwood.
Matthew Pino (favorite album: Folklore, favorite song: “Bad Blood”) disagreed.
“I don’t enjoy being around that many people, and I feel like if we would’ve gone there I would’ve been too tired for the concert. That bit where it was recorded and performed was really great,” said Pino.
Taylor Swift offered the same once-in-a-lifetime experience for those who either don’t really like crowds or who enjoy concerts by releasing her movie. This way, Swifties all throughout the world could watch this monumental milestone in her career.
“I feel like at concerts there’s that sweaty feeling… a lot of people around you, and it (the movie) was in a nice, cool air-conditioned theater. I really liked it,” said Elijah Mott.
Mott (favorite album: 1989, favorite song: “Shake it Off”) supported Pino’s statement. This movie made Swfities feel like they were at SoFi stadium without dealing with the disadvantages of concerts, such as pricey tickets and food.
“I think that it’s awesome they made it a movie because all the people who didn’t go, get to see it, anyway. Especially ‘cause some people can’t afford it,” said Sherwood.
This was the case for those who didn’t go to the Eras Tour. The tickets ranged from $49- $499(plus fees) but the resale tickets went up to over $1000. The movie made it so that people who couldn’t afford the tickets could watch her movie in their local theater.
Taylor Swift is an outstanding pop singer with genres of her own that many people can appreciate. What was even more appreciative was her ambition, which allowed all of her fans to see her perform The Eras Tour concert in Sofi Stadium. Fans from all over are grateful for this and were excited while waiting in anticipation for the release of the televised version on Swift’s birthday, Dec. 13. Since she has even been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year.
