Teamwork in sports is crucial for success. However, it’s important to know how to perfect teamwork to ensure a victory.
Lacrosse coach and teacher Mr. Ruiz shared how he gets his team to work together.
“We coach our team not to be selfish on the field because the only way they will be successful is by working together and helping each other reach their goal—which is to win,” said Ruiz.
Lucy Garrity, a senior and lacrosse captain at MHHS, shared her technique on how she helps her teammates improve their overall skills.
“When I’m trying to help my teammates, I tend to focus less on correcting their actual skill and more on the attitude they give towards themselves,” said Garrity.
A big part of skills in sports is confidence. Having bad sportsmanship brings your team down and lowers your capability and self-esteem. Another huge part of sports is knowing your teammates’ capabilities and what they need to work on. Freshman Izzy Post shares how she helps her teammates succeed during tennis season.
“I try to know my teammate’s strengths and weaknesses to try and help them improve,” said Post. Bonding with teammates also has an important role in teamwork.
“Our coaches would help us bond by having us do activities like secret Santa to have our teammates bond with each other,” said Post.
Teamwork plays a huge role in a team’s success, so it’s important to know how to help and make sure you and your teammates succeed. “I try not to make others feel bad with my criticism,” said Post.
