Helping Paws is one of the many clubs here at Mission Hills High School; however, it is a club that helps animals. In this club, members help make toys, help at animal shelters, and do other activities that will help animals in need.
“My friends and I started this club to help out animals who didn’t have homes. We’re just getting started, so we haven’t had much to do, but our goal is to eventually get more people involved so that we can volunteer at animal shelters and more places,” said junior Averi Smith.
The main goal of this club is being able to help animals that don’t have good living conditions or don’t have a home. This is a good goal to have for their club because it is something that isn’t talked about a lot or that many people don’t know about. Since there are more people learning about it, they can provide equipment that they need in order to help these animals.
“Usually the club president Kelsey and I discuss what would be some fun things we would like to do with a theme of helping shelters out. We look at the things shelters need help with and make those problems our top priorities when it comes to event planning,” said junior Mayte Morales.
For each event, the club will have a meeting to make sure that the event that is going to take place will work well with everyone’s schedule. Helping Paws’ main motivation is to get more students to participate in their events so that they can help animals that are in an animal shelter.
“My favorite part of being part of this club is the fact that I can do fun community service to help others while being with my friends and sharing this experience with them. However, not only do I get to share this experience with my friends, but I also get to socialize with different grades and minimize the rift between classes to create one,” Morales said.
While this club is good in that it helps animals that are in need, it also helps students get community service hours at the same time. Students will volunteer to help with their friends at the events that this club hosts. Although this club is really big on helping animals and creating new memories, there are different things that make members of this club enjoy it.
“My favorite part so far has been our first pet-toy-making where we made all sorts of different toys. I really like the hands-on aspect of the club, and I can’t wait until I start volunteering and helping out in the actual shelters,” Smith said.
This club is very hands-on when it comes to creating crafts that are going to be for animals in the animal shelter. Although this club might be small, it is still making a very big impact on the members in the club and the animals that they are helping. The club members really enjoy being part of something that gets to help out the community and animals in need.
