Mission Hills High School has a lot of staff members that have to do different tasks, and sometimes they need help. Students are able to become an aide for teachers or staff to help them throughout the school year.
“I wanted to become an aide because I thought it would give me meaningful experiences and maybe be good to put on college applications,” said junior Finley Schmiz.
When students are an aide for someone at school, they can gain many experiences during the year. These experiences can teach them skills that they might not have been that good at or as comfortable with in the beginning of the school year.
“I am an aide for the attendance office. I highly recommend being an aide for the attendance office because other than it being fun, the staff have a lot of work to do, and it’s really nice to help them out,” said senior Racilee Reyes.
Student aides can have a lot of fun when it comes to the tasks that they have to do or even when it comes to talking to the people that they see throughout the day. Being an aide can introduce students to many new people. and they will also be able to make new connections with other students.
“Being an aide has helped me with my customer service skills, as I’m often communicating to people at the window. It also helped me become more familiar with the school campus too because of the many deliveries I make to classrooms,” said Reyes.
Throughout the school year, there are many different jobs that one might have to do as an aide. The person that one is an aide for can request help with many different duties.
“Basically, as an aide for the nurse’s office, we will help file important students’ needs [and] medical information, assist the nurse in getting students the proper attention, and sometimes even just have days to study,” Schmitz said.
Each duty that student aides have to do will differ depending on who they are an aide for.
“I get to aid the office by delivering passes, checking students in and out of school and servicing parents at the front.” Senior Racilee Reyes stated
If students are an aide for a teacher, nurse, office or somewhere else, then they may have them doing different tasks; however, they will be able to gain new skills throughout the school year or step out of their comfort zones by doing something like talking to students that they don’t know.
