Leyla Avilla is studying to prepare for what she is learning in her classes. She managed her time well and is getting all of her tasks done. “I always try to stay on top of my work that way I don’t feel overwhelmed,” Leyla Avilla said.

High School students tend to have trouble managing time due to all of their school work from their classes. There are many students who struggle with being able to keep track of all of the assignments they have to do outside of school and at school.
“For me, having bad time management slows down my work because it completely throws all of my plans for the day off and I become really disoriented.” junior Aidan Flatley said.
When one isn’t able to manage their time wisely, their whole day can be thrown off and the amount of work that they can get done is impacted.
“If I have bad time management, I will forget things and get behind on them. I will also procrastinate and have to do something at the very last minute,” junior Ella Riggs said.
Poor time management can even cause students to procrastinate on their school work, as Riggs mentioned. Although having bad time management can affect students, there are also materials that can help students start managing time in a good way.
“I use a daily planner which helps me a lot because I look at it multiple times a day, and I use reminders to set notifications on my phone,” Riggs said.
Using a daily planner is one of the many helpful ways students can manage their time better. A planner is something that students can use to write everything that they need to do, such as their class work or even the schedule of their whole day. This can ensure that they create enough time to finish a certain task.
“I limit distractions by taking anything that could distract me out of my general vicinity or out of my room,” Flatley said.
Some students might also be trying to focus on their schoolwork in a loud room, which can cause distractions. They might have their phone near them; this isn’t good because if they get a message, they could start to look at their phone to reply and eventually, they could stay on their phone for longer than they actually should, leading them to get distracted from their work.
“If I am working on homework, I will put my phone on do not disturb; this way I don’t receive any notifications. When working, I try to work in a space that is not busy and is pretty empty to help limit my distractions,” Riggs said .
Although sometimes it is hard to manage time in a productive way, there are techniques that students can use to help them use their time in a beneficial way to prevent falling behind in their classes or tasks and to help students learn how to manage their time in a better way.
