One semester down, one more to go. With 2019 behind us and a new year beginning, students are once again back to the bustling high school atmosphere with busy schedules and demanding time restraints. As a student and member of the freshman girls soccer team, Alexa Juarez (9) can certainly vouch for this struggle. In this case, Alexa’s method of listening to music never disappoints.

   “Everyday we go to school. Directly after, I have soccer practice. Sometimes I even have things to do after that like going to church and doing homework as soon as I get home. Soccer and school are the main contributions to my stress,” Juarez said.

   To break tension, Juarez takes advantage of every moment she is able to get her hands on some earphones and listen to a variety of music ranging from a mellow tune to an optimistic beat.

   “Music takes my mind off of everything, and it brings a different type of emotion into me such as really feeling the music itself. I tend to just close my eyes and feel transported to a different world. It’s truly helpful toward making me feel better,” Juarez said. 

    There is an immense amount of musical styles yet Juarez has discovered a meaningful connection with artists who produce heartfelt tunes throughout their music. One of these creators includes Rex Orange County, a popular indie and alternative singer.

   “Most of Rex’s songs are very upbeat, and I can just relate to the meaning of the songs. His songs usually talk about love and friendships. This resonates with me because of how much I care for my friends. It’s very helpful and definitely brings out the best in me. It makes me want to get up and dance,” Juarez said.

    Music has helped Juarez understand how others point of views can differ from her own. Music has not only allowed Juarez to become more relaxed, but it has assisted her in solidifying her point of view on the world around her. These attributes have enabled Jaurez to become more focused and prepared for school and life.
