“I decided to become a member of the San Diego County Sheriffs’ Department when I was about 22. I was going to be in the fire department, but I decided it wasn’t for me after going through the EMT basics school. I didn’t like the medical route; I wanted to help people, but I didn’t want to become a firefighter. The adrenaline rush is great, but also just the rewarding factor of knowing you’re helping people at the end of the day.”
