Ballin’ Beus beats the clock

Catherine Beus, also known as the “Stormin’ Mormon”, can draw, read, and play basketball like a boss. Although she doesn’t have the best of grades and has a low attendance rate, Beus is exemplary in the sports she dedicates her time to.

“I have been playing basketball since I was four; it’s fun and I’m good at it. In addition to basketball, I played soccer up until ninth grade, softball for a year, volleyball for two years, and water polo my junior year,” Beus said.

Beus’ family has inspired her to do her best while getting through high school.

“My parents have helped me the most throughout high school. I was also motivated by my brothers’ mistakes. My competitive spirit made me want to do better than them,” Beus said.

In addition, Beus’ church and basketball friends have forced her to adopt some interesting abilities and memories.

“My friend group communicates with weird noises. Some noises we just know what it means, but we don’t have our own language. We also have “feel” trips and are planning a road trip up the west coast,” Beus said.

After high school, Beus will be attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah; and plans on going on a mission once she turns 19.

“I am going to BYU and will try to walk on to the basketball team. I don’t know my major yet. I have only planned the next year of my life; I don’t know anything after that,” Beus said.

Although Beus has yet to find herself and her interests, she is prepared to take a leap of faith and figure out her life one step at a time.
