“I lived in Virginia. And I moved out of my mom’s house with my dad, who lives in California. I think the saddest moment of my life is seeing her break down in tears before I got on the plane. I didn’t have to move; I wanted to move. Virginia was not the place for me, obviously. I was from South Virginia, and it was very “one way.” There were rednecks and I just couldn’t fit in, so I knew I had to move. Growing up in Virginia, I knew that I wanted to do fun crazy stuff like this, but I was a young 14-year-old in the closet, and I was so scared of everything and didn’t want to come out. So when I did come out, I thought that people would not be shocked and that no one would care. So I came out to the entire school. I was basically “that” person. So I sat down with one of my best friends at the time and she said, ‘Oh, you know you’re going to hell, right?’ So then I picked up my tray and moved tables and sat by myself.”

Very nice article Maleah! Short and Sweet. People need to get over themselves. Just because you don’t agree with something doesn’t mean you have to be mean or unkind. The US is still evolving. Remember that Blacks couldn’t sit anywhere but in the back of the bus or even in the military minorities could only have service roles. But all that has changed and society will continue to change for the better!
Go Grizzlies!

Lance Holmes is my oldest grandchild and I could not be more proud of him now as I have been since he was born. As much as I miss him in Virginia, I can rest assure he is now enjoying his life to the fullest in California. Love my Lance!
