- President Donald Trump delivered the State of the Union this past Tuesday. He boasted about the United State’s growing economy as well as necessary border security which includes the popular wall. Trump cited that the country would need to unite past party while additionally mentioning that “America will never be a socialist country.” Over 46 million people viewed the broadcast, up a million from last year.
- With climate change being a heated conflict within politics, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey stepped up to announce the controversial Green Deal to Congress. It aims to cut carbon-emissions as well as increase jobs and the economy. This nonbinding resolution seems ambitious to many legislatures with what some may see as unrealistic, while others cite it as necessary to combat global warming. This idea is not new but has gained traction over the years. Yet, experts believe that the Deal will unlikely pass.
- The divided Supreme Court came together on a 5-4 ruling on the temporary blockage of the Unsafe Abortion Protection Act. This act would have granted “admitting privileges” to all abortion-performing doctors from nearby hospitals. This law has been denied in the past; yet, Louisiana asserts that it is necessary for more success from higher-quality physicians while others state that it is a hidden way to ban or remove the right to an abortion.
- Last Tuesday, billions celebrated the Chinese New Year. The Chinese dubbed this year the year of the pig, who are realistic, sometimes materialistic and always have an enthusiastic personality.
