Story by Madeline Goebel

“I think the best words I would use to describe my life are disappointing and unremarkable, but I guess I’m okay with that. Things don’t really ever turn out the way I want or expect them to, but I can get over it because I know that nothing can last forever, and this impermanence fuels my will to continue, as it’s extremely likely that I can find happiness. Just because my life is kind of sad and lonely now doesn’t mean I’ll be alone forever. As a wise Gaga once said ‘I don’t wanna be alone forever, but I can be tonight.’ Helping others is one of the most important things in my life, and I could never see myself as a selfish person; it’s just not something I would ever want. I tend to put others before myself, and think that everyone deserves a chance, especially those who need it most. Everyone has a moral compass, and I think that sticking to mine is an important way to live. It’s important to be good to others. Making other people happy brings a satisfaction that can often be unmatched. One story that strikes me as very important is Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” music video. It is an artistically rendered tour-de-force detailing Gaga’s struggles with mental illness. I find its philosophical gesticulations regarding views of the past and mistakes, as well as one’s ability to overcome obstacles of any kind. Once again shedding light on the lyrically beautiful musings of Lady Gaga: ‘You may say I lost everything, but I still had my bedazzler. And I had a lot of patches. Shiny ones from M&J Trimmings. So I wreaked havoc on some old denim, and I did what any girl would do. I did it all over again.’”
