  • A hotel in Nairobi, Kenya was the subject of a hostage by the Al-Qaeda-connected terrorist group, Al-Shabaab. As of now, 21 people were killed, 28 are injured and 19 are still missing.
  • The government shutdown has now entered its 28th day, leaving 800,000 government workers without a job or paycheck. This crisis is rooted in the debate over whether to fund a wall spanning the Mexican-American border.
  • Broadway fans and others say goodbye to “Hello Dolly” star Carol Channing. She passed away at age 97, on Tuesday, January 15.
  • President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will hold their second summit at the end of February. The summit will center around denuclearization of North Korea, where small progress has been made since the first meeting.
  • The theme of the Winter Dance was announced at today’s pep rally: Space Jam. The dance will take place on Saturday, February 19.
  • Over 30,000 Los Angeles teachers continue to strike for their 5th day, stalling school. Their protests spark similarity, as they demand smaller class sizes, more school staffing and higher teacher salaries.
