“Hypothetically, if I were to study and work really hard for a test or final and completely bomb it, that would probably be the worst thing that could happen to me. I think my fear has something to do with the circumstances I was raised in—I don’t really like failure and neither do my parents. Growing up, I’ve always gotten good grades, but being a Vietnamese-American girl, people usually brush off my hard work just because I’m Asian. I could do really well on a test and someone would say, ‘Oh, it’s because you’re Asian,’ but no, it’s because I work hard and try my best in everything I do. Despite it all though, I am very proud of who I am and my race.”
